Go ahead and forget the old adage about brushing your hair 100 strokes a day. Over brushing can actually lead to hair loss, breakage of strands and increased oil production. Normal brushing of your hair once or twice daily is sufficient to keep it healthy and free of tangles and build-up.

Make sure that you do not use shampoo each and every day. This can lead to your hair becoming very fragile and also dandruff over time. Try to shampoo and wash your hair two or three times per week if you want to achieve the best possible look and feel.

Gently pat your hair dry with a towel rather than rubbing it violently. This can make hair frizzy and stretch it out which makes the strands break. Instead, pat, blot or gently squeeze excess moisture from your hair, or wrap it loosely in a towel. Unless you actually use a wide-toothed comb, do not brush or comb your hair while it is wet.

When you are drying off your hair after a shower, do take care to be quite gentle. Vigorous and enthusiastic rubbing can cause hair damage and breakage to occur, not to mention, tough to remove tangles. Instead, take the towel and gently squeeze out the excess water, while delicately blotting the roots.

Dull hair can be enhanced by using a clarifying shampoo. Dull hair can be caused by buildup of products over time. Clarifying shampoo can be used for a short period of time to remove buildup and bring life back to your hair.

When washing your hair, you should start by rinsing it with water to get most of the impurities out. Then, gently massage the shampoo into your scalp and in the hair. Take your time and make sure all your hair is covered with shampoo. Rinse until all the shampoo is gone.

Avoid blow-drying your hair after your shampoo. Extreme heat can damage your hair shaft and cause your hair to dry out. Brittle hair will break easily. Instead, after you shampoo, dry your hair gently with a soft towel, and allow your hair to air dry naturally. This will help your hair to retain its natural oils.

A large, vented paddle brush is an excellent investment for those whose hair is very long and very thick. Taming this type of hair requires plenty of brushing. Using a paddle brush will speed up the brushing process. A vented one will help the hair dry faster, preserving its volume and bounce.

Keep your hair from being damaged by the sun. There are many products available that contain sunscreen to help protect your tresses. You should try sporting a hat. It is critical that you take care to protect your skin, though protection of your hair is also vital. Your hair is just as prone to harm from the sun’s rays as your skin.

While there are products available on the market that promise to repair split ends, there is nothing you can do that will really restore your hair back to its original state. You can apply some beeswax to it, in order to make it look better until it grows out, then the split ends should be cut off.

Feel confident in the knowledge that every minute you can devote to the care and maintenance of your hair translates to significant improvements in its look and feel. By understanding your color and cut options, you will make a smart choice. Keep the ideas in this piece in mind in order to get the hair you have always wanted.
