Taking care of your hair can compliment your face, dress up a classy outfit, or let people know of your intentions and goals. Read the tips in this article so that you can find out how to use hair care to represent yourself to the world in the way that best suits you.

It is okay to use styling products on your hair as long as you refrain from using them every day of the week. Use then every so often and make sure that they do not contain alcohol, which will only serve to damage hair and make it dry and brittle.

For finer hair and thinner hair, stay away from heavier conditioners. They will just weigh down your hair, and make it look more limp and lifeless. The best conditioners that avoid this problem are mouse-like conditioners and sprayed leave-in conditioners.

When you are using a hair dryer to dry your hair you should not keep it in one place on your hair for any amount of time. The focused heat on that part of the hair can cause damage and dry your hair out unnecessarily. Keep it moving!

People with curly hair should absolutely avoid using smoothing brushes and other brushes that have dense, fine bristles. You should use a wide-tooth comb for any combing. However, you should take care to use a heavy detangler before attempting to comb out knots and other tangles, as curly hair is susceptible to breakage.

Using appliances that are hot on the hair can prove to be very damaging, so you should limit your use of them. When using a blow dryer on your hair, it is a good idea to use the cool setting or the low setting, so that you will decrease the chances of hair getting damaged.

You can damage your hair by blow drying. If you must dry your hair with a blow dryer, do so on the coolest heat setting and avoid training the air on one area of your hair for longer than five seconds. Use your hands to detangle your hair while drying it so that you can brush it smoothly when it is dry.

When you are using conditioner, make sure you are spreading it evenly throughout your hair. Also, you need to be sure to keep the conditioner in your hair and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes to soak in.

Be careful with the use of hair extensions. While hair extensions are a quick way to get longer hair, they can also cause serious damage to your natural hair and scalp. The heavy weight of the extensions can pull out natural hair, and the bonding solution can dry it out.

Use leave in conditioner on your hair on a regular basis. This is particularly useful for those who have dry and brittle hair. Using a leave in conditioner is equivalent to using a daily moisturizer on the face. It will help keep your hair healthy and replenished and prevent damage.

Those with curly hair should use satin pillowcases for sleeping. Cotton pillowcases dry your hair by absorbing all the moisture and oils. Satin pillowcases can help you retain your curls when you wake up. A satin headscarf is also an option if for some reason the pillowcase won’t work out.

Although styling your hair a certain way is optional, you should remember to keep your hair clean and healthy. Don’t destroy your hair with chemicals, dyes, processing or other harmful practices. Treat your hair well and it will have a healthy shine that you are sure to notice right away!
